THE SUMATRAN TIGERS
Right
now a really endangered animal is in danger of becoming extinct. It is the
smallest of all living tigers. The Sumatran tiger. Their fluffy orange coat of
fur with stripes of black. Soon are we really going to lose them? Are we really
never going to see them again?
I’m here to tell you that you have to save them! It is found in
Sumatra in western Indonesia. It roams from lowland
forest to highland forest. But most of it is being destroyed! There were 12
million hectares of the forest and in the past 22 years, nearly 50 percent of
it is lost due to deforestation. A hundred years ago there were 100,000 tigers
in the wild. We now only have
about 400 to 500 Sumatran tigers left in the wild. And if the numbers goes down
more, most likely it will go extinct! We have to stop this extinction from
happening. There are already lots of extinct animals and we do not want to lose
another. We can stop the extinction by stopping the demand for tiger parts and
with the poaching. Also stop with the threats. We should also recycle so they
can stop cutting down all the trees for paper. You could also help by
fundraising and donate the money. Now you will ask me why we should save them.
Well I’ve got plenty of reasons why.
Firstly,
if the tigers are extinct, the ecosystem will be destroyed.A tiger is both a
guardian and an indicator of a healthy forests. Few understand that a live bird
or insect is far more important to the economy than a dead one. A live tiger
brings rain – a dead one brings nothing but devastation. They could also
prevent climate change. How? The more tigers we can save, the more healthier
reserves we have, larger is our national carbon sink. A tiger should therefore
be entitled to carbon credits in the form of protection. We need to protect the
forest habitat where they live. By saving these places, we will not only allow
tigers to roam freely, but also many other endangered species that live there
and form the very important thing that makes our planet unique . Saving the
Sumatran tigers mean saving the forest, and by saving the forest supply both
nature and people with fresh water, food and air. So by saving the Sumatran
tigers we are helping people as well! For one thing, where tigers exist,
tourists go. And where tourists go, money can be made by communities. And the
communities can use those money for good things!
I
also know that president Obama wanted to help save these tigers. On the internet
I saw a sign with his name saying ‘we need your help to make girl scouts
cookies! Rainforest save! He mentioned saving the tigers and also how endangered
the Sumatran tigers is. Also tigers including Sumatran tigers are a national
animal in India. Since
ages, it has been the symbol of magnificence, power, beauty and fierceness and
has been associated with bravery. Would you feel no embarrassment at all if
India is left without a single
wild tiger?
Really
if you look on the good side of these tigers, don’t you think that they are
cute? I can’t imagine it if we ever lose them. Now this big cat is being trapped
and pushed out of its home. And yet it clings to survival barely. There is hope
in saving them if you could help them. Besides
everything else, Sumatran tigers are
also living beings like you and me, they also feel the pain, they also
need their family. Please save
tigers, stop their brutal killings. We must make the effort to help them
no matter if the effort is big or small.
That's enough of a reason to give this species a fighting chance to make it
into the next decade. Remember each and every effort counts.
